BUILDING PERMIT IN HAND! BOOM!

Building permits have been approved for the Advanced Medical Marihuana Canada (AMMCan) facility, with renovations to the 340,000-square-foot facility planned to kick off this week.

Plans will see the office and shipping/receiving area of the facility gutted and converted into new office space that expands into a part of the existing greenhouse, an extensive security area, as well as space for curing and processing.

Permits were received Friday and AMMCan president Peter Herburger said the company is appreciative of the support it received from Municipality of Kincardine staff, and Lakeland Engineering in advancing the plan.

“Getting the permits without any big problems made it possible to stay on our timeline,” said Herburger via e-mail. “We are on schedule and are in talks with great local contractors.”

Municipality of Kincadine building and planning manager Michelle Barr said the company was able to maintain the existing ‘Bruce Energy Centre industrial’ zoning use of the facility, which will see alterations to the inside of the greenhouse areas, plus extensive security fencing, cameras and other features.

“There were some minor ammendments to the site plan, which will have to meet Health Canada requirements and comply with any other authorities,” said Barr.

The closest neighbours in the Bruce Energy Centre are Bruce Agra Dehy, a race horse food dehydration plan, Greenfield Ethanol and Biax, a compostable plastic film company. Vacant lots also sit east of the facility, Barr said.

AMMCan’s facility is planning to be operational by winter, producing 150-lbs. of medical-grade marijuana daily for the federal

government under the largest existing license issued to date in Canada.

The company is a subsidiary of Supreme Pharmaceuticals and plans to employ upwards of 100 staff once fully operational.
