US Soldier Blatantly Ripped Off By Priceline Group's Booking.com

I made a reservation with Booking.com for a hotel specifically because it stated in big green writing, "Free Cancellation." Hotel space was running out and I wanted to secure something and be able to change it as I went along.

I ended up having to cancel it just hours after making it (well within the time frame stated on the "Free Cancellation" part of the listing--have screenshot), and I was charged $539 anyway.

This is an unfair business practice. Any idea how to proceed, since their Customer Service department won't do anything to rectify the situation?
