sheesh, i have to say that i am guilty of a characteristic i detest in others when it comes to the israel stuff. I am a naturally curious person who loves learning. But when it comes to israel, i am willfully ignorant, and by design.

i have a very simple opinion, not clouded by much other than what i read on this board. Many of you are finely tuned to it, i am not. Mine is this: we helped launch israel, by pouring money and support to them. they are now a thriving economy, which doesn't need our $3.1 billion per year. they have the right to defend themselves, of course. so did George Zimmerman, even if any rational person knew he wasn't really in danger for his life. sometimes the use of "defense" strategies start trouble, like the Bush Doctrine did.

I think we need to wean them off our nipple, maybe help them if they are close to being snuffed out. but they aren't. the wars over there are religious at their core, and i have no personal interest in what crazy people do to each other.

i think us giving them 3 billion so they can buy weapons from our MIC is just another form of welfare for our corporations. i do think israel is way heavy-handed in their extermination of their foes, but i don't think keeping them amped up with our booty adds a goddam thing to peace in the middle east.
