We're approaching 60 cents/GB - pretty nice.


Micron/Crucial is already below that. Have a look at the MX100. I have it installed into my Samsung All-In-One. The 512GB version runs about as fast as a SATA 3 interface can get (~500MB/s), for both, reading and writing. 512 GB is a bit above 200$, so that's ~40 cent per GB. There's really no good reason anymore to buy a classic harddisk for your system drive.

How can Micron do this? Well, the drive is the first to use 16nm flash! So, for the great price, you also get state of the art semiconductor technology - something nice for us nerds. Moore's Law seems well and alive, at least for memories.

The drive is advertised as being very reliable, also for heavy use and under stressed conditions (heat, sudden power down etc.).

Micron has a clear strategy: Sell the entire devices rather than just chips and crush the competition with your process advantage.
