WHAT WE DO AT CANNAVEST™ LABORATORIES

The CannaVest laboratory was designed to facilitate cutting edge research on cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is a valuable non-psychoactive nutraceutical product isolated from industrial hemp. The lab, located in the heart of San Diego, CA, has recently made some significant scientific contributions to the burgeoning industrial hemp movement currently taking place in the United States and around the world. Dr. Joshua Hartsel (lead research scientist) and Greg Waterbury (Project Manager) are equipped with state of the art high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), Teamprocess chromatography, and distillation tools to produce award winning pharmaceutical-grade CBD. In addition to a full portfolio of scientific instrumentation, Dr. Hartsel previously served as a board member on the Association of California Cannabis Laboratories and was the founder of Delta-9 Technologies, an analytical testing company dedicated to the quality control of cannabis products. The CannaVest laboratory has adopted the industry standard techniques to evaluate hemp for cannabinoid content, terpene profiles, pesticide residues, and microbial contamination.
Greg Waterbury is the Project Manager for CannaVest. Greg attended Syracuse University and brings over 20 years of experience in life sciences to the team. He specializes in setting up lab facilities and managing facilities expansion. He contributes his experience gained in cell and molecular biology (Yale University) to the efforts of the company. The teams academic and industry backgrounds compliment the full range of equipment available in the CannaVest laboratories and ensure that consistency and quality are maintained with every batch.

Since the lab was established in September of 2013 CannaVest has increased its production capacity of hemp oil, and the available product lines. The lab has grown from a 2389 sqft facility to 3641 sqft to increase the company’s scientific capabilities. The sterile environment in the new lab space will house rapid microbial screening equipment for high-throughput identification of potentially harmful yeast, mold, and bacteria pathogens. In addition, the company plans to develop techniques to identify individual hemp species at the genetic level. This will enable the company to maintain breeders right protection on various industrial hemp cultivars that grow well in the United States of America and produce high levels of fiber, CBD, and hemp seed oil.

CannaVest Labs have specifically increased capabilities to concentrate these hemp oils into high value CBD-rich hemp oils. CannaVest CBD products have been covered on major news networks (CNN and ABC 10 San Diego News), and earned recognition in multiple Cannabis Cups (Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and Seattle)/Michigan “Green Cup” for the highest cannabidiol (CBD) concentrates.
