2da, this is a small company. The science group is not in some basement lab. while management is up in the corner office, smoking cigars and making stupid decisions.
Having worked at a number of small enterprenerial companies, I can tell you that when the CEO sits at the same table for lunch, and you can discuss whatever you want to, it's very democratic. I'm sure that they have many more formal mechanisms, where the science and management mix. I don't think you would have the great science, if you didn't have a supportive and understanding management.
It is inconceivable to me that the board or HB would make any decision without very strong input from TC and the senior science and medical staff (and outside collaborators like Cortez, do you really think that Cortez was kicking and screaming, "no, don't do it, 45mg is too much", I don't think so).
Furthermore, let's remember, even in applied science (as opposed to pure, theoretical work), it's a process of discovery, of dead ends, of mistakes and ultimately, finding the right path. Whatever blame or praise Ariad deserves, it's most likely appropriate to allocate it to both.
I'll also want to say, that I'm not discouraging you from doing your DD and sharing with the rest, as long as you understand that there will be people who disagree, and will say so. So, I fully endorse what Vid said! I will continue to read your posts with interest
