In and of itself, a reverse split does nothing to shareholders. Your number of shares is reduced by the same proportion as the price increases, leaving the total worth being the same. It is the implications of the R/S that is bad for shareholders. It reduces the O/S but unless the CEO reduces the A/S at the same time, particularly in proportion to the magnitude of the R/S, the perception now holds that the company has many many more shares it can add to the O/S through convertible debt and direct share sales. This perception generally causes a large selloff shortly after the R/S is completed.
