JG36, thank you for the quality information. I don't know why, but it seems difficult to find out about the nuts and bolts of option's markets.

I have used options, but never have been very successful at it. I have read a few books on the subject, and I will continue to look into this area.

The main reason for my post, and the questions posed was to push back on other posts weaving this conspiratorial thesis of insiders writing covered calls to gain interest (fees) on their positions. The main point of this thesis was that insiders just wanted to make money at the expense of us retail investors, and actually were conspiring with shorts for a lower share price. The shorts in turn were the counterparty to the insider's covered calls. That's a mind stretcher.

Actually, knowing of covered calls, the strategy in the thesis could work on the conditions of a stagnant or falling share price, at least, for awhile. The strategy, if too successful, would wind up collapsing the whole house. Also, the strategy could only work if "insiders" could legally sell covered calls.

Just knowing what I do of options, and restricted shares, and never have read anything in practice to support the thesis; I immediately had my doubts.

I think your post helps to confirm the unlikeliness of the "insider's selling covered call options" to short sellers thesis.

Most insiders, by class, would have restricted shares. Insiders would include: officers, directors, key employees or associates with insider information (information not known to the public)--may include legal counsel, etc. Also, large holders of shares (over 5%) sometimes have restrictions placed on their trading or shares.

I am still learning, and your post was most helpful.

Thanks.
