Short Term Training Program (STTP) is the seminal medical student research program that occurs during the summer between the freshman and sophomore years in medical school. Students collaborate with a faculty mentor in the specialty of their choice, and research projects in the STTP may focus on basic, translational, clinical or health services research. To qualify, the student must have successfully completed the first year of medical school. The student is expected to actively engage in all aspects of the proposed research project, including lab meetings, journal clubs, conferences, etc. The final product of the summer research is a first-author poster, prepared by the student and presented at the Josiah Brown Research Fair. Students submit a final abstract describing and summarizing their research at the end of the summer, prior to the Research Fair. Student abstracts, and mentors are posted on the STTP website at (http://sttp.healthsciences.ucla.edu/abstract/sttp-abstract-list).
