New Sarah Palin Channel will cost more than Netflix, but you get more Sarah Palin

Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, whose media presence has ebbed and flowed since resigning her Alaskan governorship five years ago, has announced the launch of her own online news channel called, unsurprisingly, the Sarah Palin Channel.

According to The Daily Variety, the fledgling news network will be subscription-based, costing $9.95 per month or $99.95 for a one-year subscription. Active military personnel will be allowed to subscribe free of charge.

At nearly $10 per month, the Sarah Palin Channel costs more than Netflix which offers streaming video of thousands of movies, popular television shows, and original programing.

In a promotional video for the online news and “community” channel, Palin – who will serve as executive editor as well as focal point of the network - promises to “look at the issues of the day” and “find solutions.”

“Are you tired of the media filters, well, I am, I always have been, so we’re going to do something about it,” Palin explains. “I want to talk directly to you, on our channel, on my terms and no need to please the powers that be.”

The channel, initially available only online, is being launched by Palin in partnership with Tapp, a video firm focused on creating original niche programming. Tapp is headed by Jeff Gaspin, former chairman of NBCUniversal Television, and Jon Klein, former president of CNN U.S.

According to Palin, subscribers will have the ability to upload their own videos to the network as well as interact with her and other subscribers via online chats. The newly-minted media executive promises to “talk about the issues the mainstream media won’t talk about,” and provide glimpses into her personal life, calling it “real life.”

The Sarah Palin Channel appears to be modeled after Glenn Beck’s The Blaze which launched after the commentator left the Fox News Channel.

Amazing America with Sarah Palin, an outdoor adventure show shown on the Sportsman channel, was recently renewed for the 2015 season.

Plain gave no indication whether her own channel would conflict with her work on the Fox News Network where she is an occasional contributor, offering soundbites and often garbled observations with hosts Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren.
