4th Patient Dies, 15 Infected at Greenville Memorial Hospital Linked to Unnamed Medical Equipment

By: Lawrence F Muscarella (UPDATED: 7/23/2014) — An “unusual” infection at Greenville Memorial Hospital in South Carolina (USA) that could have national implications is likely to have caused the recent deaths of four patients, according to hospital officials.

In total, 15 patients since March, 2014, have tested positive for the infection linked to surgical procedures performed in an operating room. Greenville Memorial Hospital is managed by the Greenville Health System.

Originally, hospital officials confirmed that three deaths had been caused by this infection, which they had previously linked to unnamed medical equipment that uses tap water. On July 21, 2014, however, it was reported that this hospital’s infection has caused yet a fourth death (click here).
