Market filing requirements are not the issue here (yes, they don't have to file anything); however, they must be a legal entity for the shares to continue trading. FINRA/SEC cannot and I'm sure will not allow a non-existent "company" with no legal registered agent to continue trading securities of said underlying entity.
I assume you understand the reasoning behind the mandate of maintaining a registered agent.
