I think the equilibrium replacement cycle for tablets will turn out to be 3 years

Perhaps but the next buying cycle will IMO be diminished because
after buying their first tablet a lot of people won't buy a second for
a while if ever because 1) they realize first hand how functionality
limited the form factor is, and 2) the novelty/fad factor is exhausted.
