I agree with you on Khosla - look at his background, he's not a manager he's a negotiator on the business development (read deal making) side.

But I totally disagree on Horst as a CEO. He is a scientist and deals with things from a totally analytical perspective, or more accurately things are either black or white.

Take Edgemont, he had a vision of what he wanted out of 450 and went out and found a partner who fit that vision. He constructed a scenario of what he wanted - not what the company needed. The plan has always been to build their own film manufacturing division, and Horst knew exactly how much money he needed and under what timeline. All of the Edgemont pieces fit that vision - problem was it never had a chance of working.

They need a CEO (and board) who has a vision / strategy for the whole company, not one piece at a time. You need to do risk / reward analysis on a wide range of different execution scenarios - then pick your plan and execute. Horst is not that person IMO.
