But here's what I know about integration......it's extremely difficult to get commercial work without a portfolio.....those looking to lay down a million or two want a contractor with a proven track record. For most start-ups that means establishing yourself in the residential market and growing your system size in small increments. I also know that it takes well trained engineers, experienced integration crews, and a lot of back-end support to keep projects moving.....project management on large jobs is a task that takes years to develop, and none of these people come cheap.
I'm being asked to believe that Tom just decided to become an integrator, and that he went right out and got a couple of commercial jobs. His claim of 30% gross margins is also out of line with this competitive industry, at least in the New England market. In order to win contracts with no experience he HAS to come in at a low price.....to my way of thinking that precludes such large margins.
As for the CIGS...he's going to have to prove to me that his technology was anything more than a pig in a poke. He certainly built what he calls a disposition machine, but there's absolutely no proof that it will work.....my memory is getting a little fuzzy at this point, but I don't remember then ever doing a production run. It's a prototype at best and will need much refining before it will do what he was claiming it would do. Hind sight is 20/20.
Add to that Tom's proclivity to "exaggerate"......he's a salesman, pure and simple, and he's going to have to prove everything he says to me before I'm ready to sit down to my crow dinner. I do admire your optimism though.....sure would be nice for something real to happen here.
