Apparently the FDA can grant fast-track status if the drug in question meets certain criteria. This is a quote from News-MD:

"The designation is assigned to drugs that offer major advances in treatment, or provide a treatment where no adequate therapy exists and accelerates the FDA's target review timeline from ten to six months."

Whether that applies to Cortex's sNDA is a question that only more knowledgeable people than I can answer. But one can hope, which I have been doing for 15 years or so.
