The reason is money of course. A predatory hedge fund controls the stock and they make money on "the wash" ie pump and dumps luring investors in and then getting them to sell on the dump - they make money going up and money going down. It's like a bad cockroach infestation, they will keep doing this until it is very obvious they can do it no longer (ie the company goes bankrupt or hits the big time... in which case they will be buying millions of shares.)
