I am convinced advances in geochemistry will change the oil industry as much or more than frac'ing technology. Every oil eagle ford, buda, cotton valley, etc. and rock has a distinct signature (via gas chromatography and mass spec). From this chemical analysis we can get all kind of new information - in a multi-layered reservoir we will be able to determine where the oil came from and avoid much of the water. Therefore, instead of a typical 40-45% Waterflood oil recovery it can be increased 10 plus percent. This is a big reserves increase.

I am working on a project right now (with a Phd from MIT) that could be a game changer. So far it's very promising. I really had my doubts. Exciting times!
