NeuLion strucks deal for World Cup 2014 live streaming service in Spanish Language with Univision Deportes By Edz Tee | June 13, 2014 0 Comments

An award-winning online video-streaming service headquartered in Plainview, New York, is playing a major role in making this year’s World Cup more accessible to Spanish people in the United States.

NeuLion Inc.,(TSE:NLN) publicly traded company, said on Thursday, June 12, that the firm itself has partnered with Univision Deportes Network to provide its live video-streaming platform for the Spanish-language sports channel’s mobile app and online stream. That said, the deal agreement will be kicking off with the digital live stream media contents of the FIFA World Cup 2014, which Univision Deportes has the exclusive rights to broadcast in Spanish version in the United States, said NeuLion executive vice president Chris Wagner.

Univision Deportes Network is a dedicated Spanish language American sports channel that focused in almost entirely to soccer events and soccer-related programming. Wagner added that the contract agreement with Univision Deportes is multiyear, but he declined to disclose the specific value.

Meanwhile, the Univision Deportes mobile app and online streaming services will be free for anyone in the United States. However, once the World Cup 2014 reaches the semis and final game, viewers will have to sign in with their cable provider and verify that they have a Univision Deportes subscription.

United States cable and television networks, ESPN and ABC, own the English-language broadcast rights, and their mobile and online World Cup streams can be accessed by their cable subscribers.

It’s still not clear the number of viewers will access Univision Deportes’ video streams during the tournaments, but for Mexico’s World Cup qualifying match against New Zealand last November, Univision Deportes had 650,000 viewers on its digital platforms alone.

NeuLion were gearing up to collect and curate the highlights, and amass clips during the opener match — Brazil versus Croatia. Viewers will be able to watch complete games and access clips and highlights from all 64 matches, which will be made immediately available on Univision Deportes’ mobile app and website during the games.

NeuLion is a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE). It has more than 300 employees across the world, including 125 in its Plainview HQ. The company’s stock price up to 5-percent yesterday as soon as the Univision Deportes partnership deal spread on the news outlets, closing at $1.08 in Toronto.

Revenue at NeuLion was $47.1 million in fiscal year of 2013, and the firm itself has a stock market value of $187.5 million.
