In over 60 or even more percent, a patent does not bring a recovery from the beginning on (depending on which science is patented). Instead of a recovery, in the beginning it will cost a lot to pay for the patent lawyers and the annual patent fees to the patent office. If the patent indeed contains a new application, which is economically usefull, a patent might bring a considerably income at a later time. It is hard to predict, when a patent application is applied for, if it will bring ever any recovery. But after some years, after a patent is issued, normally it can be estimated if this patent will bring any recovery, or not. Than the life time of a patent can be prolonged for another 15 years.
