Scores at Trump Taj Mahal unveils new revue at the Blue Velvet Theater
By Lori Hoffman
When Scores Atlantic City opened last year at the Trump Taj Mahal, it became the first gentlemen’s club complex to open in a United States casino. However the space can’t really be defined as just a gentleman’s club. Scores wants to be known as an adult entertainment venue that is more inclusive for both sexes.
As part of that expanded definition, Scores opened in late April its 130-seat Blue Velvet Theater featuring a main stage with large LED screen and a centrally located smaller round stage with a pole. The Real Men of Scores male revue is presented there on Friday and Saturday nights.
Beginning this week, the room is also home to The Curious Show, an intimate revue featuring a comedian/magician emcee, four seductive dancers and several circus style performers. Atlantic City veteran show runner Allen Valentine, who is also the man behind The Burlesque Show at Borgata, produces the show.
The one hour show kicks off with magician and host Eric Walton telling us about the nature of curiosity and our desire for knowledge. What follows is a mix of sensual dance routines interspersed with cirque-style acts including a contortionist, juggler, aerialist, and a quick finish magic trick from Walton.
The dancers — Jill Reed, Stephanie Potteiger, Kaylee Olson and Thomas Sutter — are excellent. The ladies shine in a dance routine with a dash of Bob Fosse-style moves to the song “Fever,” while Sutter is most impressive with a tap dance routine to the James Bond movie theme. That was certainly unexpected.
Juggler Chris Ruggiero highlights his performance by balancing on an exercise ball while juggling three swords, and contortionist Cassidy Rose, who is much taller than the average contortionist, demonstrates the amazing flexibility needed to twist yourself into a pretzel.
Aerialist Anya Sapozhnikova didn’t have must room to work height-wise, but showed off her athletic skill while moving up and down a chain.
The Curious Show
Presented every Wednesday and Friday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $40, available by calling 609-487-4230 or online here. Must be at least 21.
