I was trying to find a post recently that I remembered reading that stated that a non open pit mine was not much of a deterrent, and it did not add to much to the overall cost. I am not sure where I read it, it may have been this board? Maybe you remember seeing it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the US military industrial complex was pushed to use this resource since it is in the states and the US put it on its list of needed resources out of their hands a few years ago. Obviously they are a fraction of the use of steel but it is a start. I think they have an ex senator on the board?
