What naive nonsense....the nutritional supplement industry does not have the FDA monitoring it for safety and efficacy..thanks to the Dietary Supplement Act...as a result, 25% of the muscle building supplements at GNC and in the general market contain anabolic steroids...an even higher percentage of male enhancement supplements contain untested derivatives of sildenafil...people die..see the ephedra debacle....just google Metabolife and see what a free and unfettered market does for your health

Heres the problem with all of this

The bias in such a non-monopolistic system would be toward good results because end users at every level of the system could progressively discern and avoid the actors doing bad or dishonest work

Unfortunately the first symptom of "actors doing bad or dishonest work" in healthcare are dead people either directly from poison they are fed for profit or indirectly from being steered away from drugs or supplements that are actually tested and found to be efficacious.

None of this means the FDA is perfect..they are influenced by corrupt companies...but the answer is to clean up the FDA and remove the influence peddlars from the process not to turn healthcare into some Randian fantasy where the free market protects us all
