I thought TSM said they were in volume manufacturing of 20nm last quarter call in January. Must have been pretty small volume.


Qualcomm is sampling their Gobi 9x30 modem, built on TSMC 20nm technology. Note that TSMC will call it production, but this is still a prototype product, and will likely take months to hit the market.

Interesting that this is positioned as an automotive chipset. Seems underwhelming for the world's first 20nm non-FPGA foundry product.

The first 20nm FPGA customer shipments were announced in December (they had only just taped out a couple of months earlier). These have very rapid development cycles, since the designs themselves are relatively simple. They are ALWAYS the first designs to ramp a new foundry process.

I still haven't seen any 20nm SOCs, though. Snapdragon 810 is targeting early 2015, and everyone else is still talking up 28nm. We might see Apple A8 later this year. That will probably be the first - but even then, I don't expect to see it shipping in i-products until the 2nd half of the year.
