The sad part on the mets, is they just have to give up a 3rd round pick to sign him before the season started. So this argument that they didn't sign drew because they would of had to give up a first round pick doesn't apply to them because there 1rst round pick was protected being in the top 10, and the 2nd round pick was used on signing granderson. So to me this whole thing has made no sense outside of the fact that they continue to lower payroll to absurd levels for a ny team in my opinion.
