Not sure about that. Asus is just launching the Zenphone - dual core Clover Trail+ now, shipping April 25th. And Asus has had a pretty good track record in sensing the market and coming out with good products (including TA100).

I think everything (price, performance, features, # of cores) depends on the segment that the device is being target towards. Most folks would pick a price band and then decide what is the best device they can buy for that price - and not worry about # of cores.

However, your overall point is well made and, as you stated, it appears Intel is pushing Bay Trail over Merrifield (for unified windows/android platform & graphics).

IMO, unless Intel has completely pulled Merrifield, we may yet see Merrifield-based devices.
