I do understand, and I have a number of stocks in DRIP accounts. But, I am talking about folks who amassed large blocks of GE shares when it was the most reliable blue chip investment in the Market, and the most widely held stock. Look at a chart please, and you will see GE's trading and price history. GE's share priced is still very depressed and below its trading range over time, and there are a lot of long term holders under water in GE shares, from the days where the high $30's was viewed as being a very low share price for GE. No amount of Dividend Reinvestment could wipe out those losses.
