I did research on patents. 20 years for utility and plant patents. Utility and plant patents issued since June 8, 1995 expire 20 years from the date of application with the payment of maintenance fees. …Patents are not renewable. Under special circumstances, a patent term may be extended. Some pharmaceutical patent protection periods may be extended. Patents can be extended only by special act of Congress. There are some exceptions. For example, the patent protection periods for certain pharmaceutical patents may be extended in order to compensate for time lost due to Government-required testing. In 2013, Nuvilex acquired exclusive worldwide and patented rights to use this cellulose-based encapsulation technology for the development of treatments for all forms of cancer.Following implantation of the Cell-in-a-Box capsules, the anticancer prodrugs are then administered. The combination of the Cell-in-a-Box technology with the anti-cancer prodrug ifosfamide has been shown in Phase I/II trials conducted in the early 2000s to be extremely effective in treating patients with advanced inoperable pancreatic cancer.Initial trials have also documented the effectiveness of treating pancreatic cancer using the Cell-in-a-Box live-cell encapsulation technology.
If I am figuring this properly there is about 6-7 years left on the patent without an extention
