I forgot to mention that the patent shows significant electrical power consumption to make the process work. That queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach went away. Still, if anyone wants to pursue a hydrogen economy this looks like a better way to distribute the fuel than trying to transport pressurized gas. I can see it being a real boon for aircraft carriers if they can make it work; nuclear carriers are strongly limited by the tanker fleet needed to keep the airwing in fuel. If some of that nuclear power could be used to simply make more fuel, it reduces the logistic difficulties greatly.
