“Given the ubiquity of mobile phones in many markets and the ease of game-play, mobile gaming is expected to reach more of the global population than has been the case for traditional PC and console gaming,”
Tuong Huy Nguyen, Senior Research Analyst at Gartner. June, 2007
- About 15.2 million wireless customers have downloaded a game.
- Global revenues for mobile games are forecasted to grow from $3 billion in 2006 to $10.5 billion in 2009 to $17.5 billion by 2011.
- Total global cumulative revenues from mobile games over the period 2006 to 2011 are forecasted to reach $56.9 billion, with Asia Pacific contributing 38%, Europe 31%, North America 22% and the other 9% split between South America and the rest of the world.
- In 2006, subscriptions are estimated to contribute to 21% of revenues; by 2011, this proportion is projected to increase to 27%.
“The increasing popularity of casual gaming, combined with a steadily increasing variety of gaming-friendly handsets offering high quality 3D graphics aimed at core gamers, will help to push end-user generated revenues from mobile games
to nearly $10bn by 2009.”
