I called Polar Frog, and talked to a person in upper management. He was polite in that he declined to say much about PCLI, which is respectful.

However, I found him to be quite aggresive and passionate. A bit intimidating actually. He seemed genuinely angry by what he perceived to be misconceptions of the abilities of the competition, pointing out that as we know here already MOD Sys is still doing just music, as is Port Media, and that others don't have any actual deployments like they do.

He defended PF by saying they have actual deployments in various places. He said they have CSS ability, although it was a bit confusing in that he said they work(ed)? with Sonic, but are NOT working with QFLIX now, if I understood him correctly, because he said QFlIX is not an open standard. In this regard he sounded a lot like our resident Tattletale here, as he then pointed out how poorly he perceived QFLIX to be received by the marketplace!

So, I interpreted his response to have been that either they have not been able to get CSS to work with QFLIX, or they have no desire to do so...

In addition, he said that PF is "in" Walgreen, which I already knew they have some relationship with books, or something like that, but then later in the conversation said he would not want to have their kiosks in Walgreen! Why? Because the avg customer stays there only 8 minutes, and that's how long it takes to burn a full-length DVD. I said it takes PCLI 6 minutes, and he said that is impossible with current technology. I find it VERY hard to believe that they wouldn't want their kiosks in Walgreen.

Definitely sounds like a poster I've seen on these boards...and also reminds me some of the phrase about people who protest a bit too much. It may be that the basher poster simply had talked to PF before and gotten the same kind of information..
