IN LATE 1999, Corey S. Ribotsky, President of NIR Group, LLC (NIR) — a hedge fund management firm — sat down to read his issue of Long Island Business News. He opened the paper to page three and saw Marcum & Kliegman’s advertisement that noted a specialization in hedge funds. Corey just happened to be looking for a new accountant; Marcum & Kliegman’s ad caught his eye. Corey contacted Marcum & Kliegman Partner Bart Friedman. Corey, Bart and Beth Weiner, (who is now Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Hedge Fund/ Investment Partnership Group) met shortly afterwards to discuss NIR Group, LLC.

About NIR Group, LLC Since late 1998, The NIR Group, LLC has
been managing hedge funds that invest in public, emerging growth, developmentstage and distressed public companies for
both individual and institutional investors. Under the leadership of Corey and Principal Lloyd Groveman, NIR works with about 20-25 public companies at any one time. With the preservation of capital as its primary focus and the use of extensive risk management, NIR’s funds make investments
that are structured to mitigate risk and produce returns in all market envi-ronments. In fact, the firm has a terrific track record; it has never had a down quarter, was up almost 40% net last year, and is up 10% this year.

Find a New Firm
At the time of Corey’s first call to Bart, NIR was using a small accounting firm that did not have a strong hedge fund
practice. In his search for a new accountant, Corey had interviewed several “Big 5” firms and came away from each meeting with the same impression: that NIR wouldn’t be a big enough client for a “Big 5” firm and would never get the
service, attention or ear of a partner that it needed to grow.
Things were different with Marcum & Kliegman from the start. Corey recalls an instant rapport with Bart during the very
first meeting. “I could see,” says Corey “that Marcum & Kliegman would give us the personal attention we really needed to fuel our growth and yet provide us with a
wealth of knowledge and expertise.”

The M&K Team, which includes Bart, Partner Phil Strassler, Manager Gary Amato, and Supervisor Richard Moskowitz,
helps NIR as it navigates through various business issues. To date, Marcum & Kliegman has assisted the company in developing an accounting system, structuring partnership and fund agreements, and dealing with off-shore fund management.
The Firm has also helped NIR redesign the presentation of statements to investors and has worked with the company’s
management team to refine NIR’s recordkeeping methods.

On an annual basis, Marcum & Kliegman audits NIR’s funds and their returns. On a quarterly basis, the Firm analyzes NIR’s records and calculates the funds’ investment returns.
Of the relationship that is now entering its third year, Bart reflects, “We have worked hard at becoming a trusted adviser
to Corey and his company, answering questions and providing guidance.” Corey adds that the most valuable aspect of the
relationship has been accessibility. “There are days I speak with Bart three or four times. I know I can reach him 24-7.”
There’s no question that NIR has enjoyed positive growth over the last few years. As evidence, Corey offers, “Over the last few years, our assets under management have increased
exponentially.Marcum & Kliegman has been instrumental in growing our business.”
