DISEASE AWARENESS & POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS

Human Diseases Potentially Treatable with SF-1019
At Immunosyn, we believe in empowering people through education; be it healthcare professionals, shareholders, potential investors or patients and their caregivers who are seeking solutions to the conditions that we anticipate treating.

In the US, we are currently focusing the potential future uses of SF-1019 on orphan diseases, which according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) criteria is a rare disease that affects less than 200,000 people in the US. At this time, applications are currently underway with the FDA for clinical trial approval of SF-1019 relating to the orphan diseases Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD or RSDS).

In Europe, similar applications are also being prepared for the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for further trials relating to Diabetic Neuropathy, Diabetic Ulcers and other wound healing.

Worldwide, orphan diseases currently afflict nearly 60 million people. In addition to treating mainstream diseases; it is our Vision to provide many of the people affected with orphan diseases hope for a better quality of life.
Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuroapthy
Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a neurological disorder characterized by progressive weakness and a loss of sensation in the legs and arms. CIDP is more common in young adults and it affects men more than women. Symptoms include tingling or numbness (beginning in the toes and fingers), weakness of the arms and legs, aching pain in the muscles, loss of deep tendon reflexes, fatigue, abnormal sensations in the arms and legs and progressive paralysis.

CIDP is similar to Guillain-Barré-Strohl-Landry Syndrome (GBS), which appears suddenly and generally improves spontaneously. Although CIDP was once called “chronic Guillain-Barré Syndrome,” it is now regarded as a related but distinct condition.

The course of CIDP varies widely among individuals. Some may have a bout of CIDP followed by spontaneous recovery, while others may have many bouts with partial recovery in between relapses.

Diabetic Neuropathy & Diabetic Ulcers
Diabetes Mellitus refers to a family of diseases featuring high glucose levels caused by the body’s inability to produce and/or utilize insulin. According to the US National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, in a statistics fact sheet prepared by the National Diabetes Education Program titled "Snapshot of Diabetes - The facts About Diabetes: Americans Sixth Leading Cause of Death” the 2005 estimate of prevalence or total number of cases of diabetes in adults is 20.8 million, with 14.6 million diagnosed cases and an additional 6.2 million undiagnosed cases. According to the same source, the 2005 incidence, or number of new cases, is 1.5 million.

One of the most severe complications of diabetes is lower-limb amputation, which is caused by diabetic ulcers. These ulcers form as a result of Diabetic Neuropathy, or Peripheral Diabetic Neuropathy (PDN), a nervous system disease evident in 60% of diabetic patients. According to the National Diabetes Education Program, Diabetic Neuropathy causes micro-vascular damage that can result in loss of protective sensation in the feet, poor circulation and diabetic foot ulcers.

RSD, RSDS and CRPS
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD or RSDS), also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), is a chronic, painful and progressive neurological condition that affects skin, muscles, joints, and bones. The syndrome usually develops in an injured limb, such as a broken leg or following surgery. However, many cases of RSD/RSDS/CRPS involve only a minor injury such as a sprain. And in some cases, no precipitating event can be identified.

Pain may begin in one area or limb and then spread to other limbs. RSD/RSDS/CRPS is characterized by various degrees of burning pain, excessive sweating, swelling, and sensitivity to touch. Symptoms of RSD/RSDS/CRPS may recede for years and then reappear with a new injury.

RSD/RSDS/CRPS appears to involve the complex interaction of the sensory, motor, autonomic nervous systems and the immune system. It is thought that the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) control over these various processes is somehow changed as a result of an injury.
