dewophile - the AE/discontinuations did hit statistical significance:

http://www.graphpad.com/quickcalcs/contingency1.cfm (you should save this simple link in your favorites - try it on the DORB / Orbec groups for treatment failure rate, but it is not Kaplan-Meier of course)

1. Plug in the 3 arm B results here (3, 36 in first group).

2. I believe it would be 0, 78 in the rest (second group).

3. It doesnt matter which test you use, Fisher's in most common.

4. Make sure you choose the 2-tailed test.

5. Once all 4 numbers are in the boxes, just click on "calculate".

==>> Result is "The two-tailed P value equals 0.0351"

Its as simple as that.

Now I know what the investigators said, the AE/discontinuations were each due to different drugs. But all the drugs were in the mix, and I would call this a clear signal. I would say that, if there was a technical paper, peer review would mean this is how it would be recorded.

ps to your PM - I also say rfj on the VRUS stuff - could that many analysts be wrong ?
