TNC/Microsoft/Juniper...

...and the importance of EEE...

Standardizing Network Access Control: TNC and Microsoft NAP to Interoperate
May 2007

>>>
Ongoing Benefits

The SOH interoperability between TNC and NAP is just the first step in an ongoing process of further integration and interoperability between the two frameworks. Expect future announcements, including details of enhanced protocols and improved integration with the tens of millions of Trusted Platform Modules (TPM) already installed in endpoints, helping to better identify individual users, thwart rootkits, and enhance overall network security. More information on rootkit prevention is available at

Wave Systems Best-In-Class Network Access Control (NAC)

Wave Systems Corp. is demonstrating best-in-class Network Access Control (NAC) security through the use of industry standard hardware and software in TCG Booth #211. Wave’s EMBASSY® Endpoint Enforcer combined with Juniper® Networks’ Unified Access Control (UAC) creates a NAC solution that provides strong platform authentication and robust protection against software attacks that create “lying endpoints.”

Specifically Wave’s EMBASSY Endpoint Enforcer measures, reports on, and validates the integrity of Juniper’s UAC client components providing a high level of assurance that the data they collect is not compromised or otherwise altered. Furthermore, this solution captures whether or not a Seagate Momentus® full disk encryption hard drive is using strong access control. Juniper’s Infranet Controller utilizes this drive information when making access control decisions.

By leveraging the unique security characteristics of Trusted Platform Modules, Wave’s EMBASSY Endpoint Enforcer extends the security of NAC solutions by using secure hardware to validate the integrity of their endpoints.

Expect widespread IF-TNCCS-SOH adoption by the 75 TNC member companies and 115 NAP partners. Already, Microsoft has announced that all Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows Server Code Name “Longhorn” products include out-of-the-box IF-TNCCS-SOH support and that support in Microsoft Windows XP systems is forthcoming. Furthermore, Juniper Networks has announced that support for the protocol will be added to its Unified Access Control solution in the first half of 2008.

Wave EEE might prove to be extremely valuable in the not-too-distant future. IMO.

Thanks for your report from the meeting.
