Faced with declining enrollment, legal and accreditation issues, EDMC closed or sold many of its schools between 2013 and 2017. By 2014, the company's shares had lost 99.9% of their value, and EDMC received a rating of default bonds (junk bond status). In January 2015, Moody's credit rating service downgraded EDMC to its lowest level, D-PD. But now a lot of attention is paid to online educational platforms such as PapersOwl. You can find more information if you check this review. In 2009, EDMC channeled 21.6 percent of its revenue, or $ 435 million, to marketing and recruiting and 16 percent, or $ 319 million, to profits. EDMC spent over $ 500,000 a year on lobbyists between 2010 and 2015.

Alpha Publishing Group (UK) Signs Protocol With Egypt for Education Management Organisation
PR Newswire
1:45 PM ET
It has been announced that Alpha Publishing (UK) group has signed a protocol with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation, who have their GCC headquarters in Dubai, to train teachers with the Nile Egyptian Schools in accordance with international standards.
As the official body responsible for the management and operation of the Nile Egyptian Schools project, which is 100 percent funded by the Government to the value of 2 billion Egyptian pounds, the Egypt for Education Management Organisation is charged with the task of ensuring the project's teachers achieve the highest levels of professional performance.
The Organisation's vision is that, when fully trained, the Nile Egyptian Schools' teachers will serve as role models at local and regional level. Now, in a significant move towards achieving that goal, the Management Organisation has signed a protocol with the UK educational group, Alpha Publishing.
The protocol, signed on Thursday, April 4 in Cairo, by Dr. Hassan Ismail Fares, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egypt for Education Management Organisation and Mr. Eyad Darawsheh, Managing Director of Alpha Publishing, engages Alpha Publishing with the ambitious tasks of providing face-to-face teacher training, e-learning expertise as well as developing and providing educational curricula in a number of subject areas including English, Mathematics and Science.
The training drive comes as part of the Egyptian State's 2030 vision and requires Alpha Publishing, in partnership with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation, to develop and implement a face-to-face teacher training program along with the provision of high-quality curriculum packages for English Language, Mathematics, Science, French Language, Arabic Language and Computer Sciences.
The signing of the protocol by Dr. Fares and Mr. Darawsheh is part of the President's plan to expand the Nile Egyptian Schools model whose centers are located in Sadat City, New Aswan City, New Luxor, New Damietta City, S horouq City, Sheikh Zayed City, and New Cairo (Al-Andalus and Jasmine).
The Nile Egyptian Schools offer a breakthrough educational curriculum designed to ensure Egyptian students and teachers meet the latest local and international accreditation requirements.
"We are anticipating educational institutions which provide a new, distinguished and high-quality educational model at the national and regional level," explained Dr. Hassan Fares to an audience at the Ministry of Education in Cairo.
"We want a model which, at its core, is based on participation by and engagement with, parents and the community. This is the best way to manage and achieve our objectives of giving every student a globally recognized certificate equivalent to the international certificate.
"Our aim is to develop students who are knowledgeable, skilled and professionally qualified, ready to engage directly with the labor market or academic environment either locally or internationally.
"We want them to be developed in an education system distinguished by i ts high international standards and Egyptian identity. We want to develop our educational and administrative environment so that they keep abreast of scientific and technological developments, and so that our curricula continually develop in accordance with the latest global trends in teaching and learning as well as community and environmental services. It is our intention that these developments will support our schools' competitive position and achieve a high level of satisfaction throughout society," he concluded.
Sherine Hamdy, Head of Sector of the Office of the Minister of Education, confirmed that the Nile Egyptian Schools' curriculum is based on the implementation of this new educational model. She emphasized the need for experienced and highly-trained teaching staff, supported by a soc iety, which is equally aware of the challenges of the labor market.
There was also a desire and need to develop responsible and effective citizens and deepen our students' sense of Egyptian identity and loyalty to the country, she said.
Dr Amani Al-Far, Executive Manager of the Organisation, said the Nile Egyptian Schools aim to serve those middle-class parents who cannot enroll their children in schools with high annual expenses.
She underlined the fact that these schools also qualify students for admission to top-ranking international universities.
According to Eyad Darawsheh, Managing Director of Alpha Publishing, today's signing of the protocol is confirmation of his company's commitment to supporting and training teachers in Egypt.
"We are very grateful to the Ministry of Education & Technical Education, Egypt and to the Egypt for Education Management Organisation for the opportunity to be here," said Mr. Darawsheh.
"Our company's strategy is rooted in providing educational resources which will best help teachers to reach international standards. We believe today's partnering with the Egypt for Education Management Organisation falls within the Ministry of Education's 2030 vision and plan to empower teachers to keep pace with the digital transformation in education."
"The forward-looking training program to be established will deliver advanced teacher training techniques. In turn, we hope that the results of this training program will contribute to the development and education of our future generations and communities by providing the labor market with a generation of knowledgeable, skilled and innovative students an d leaders who can create new industries and jobs in Egypt and the region," said Mr. Darawsheh.
His words were echoed by Kevin MacDermot, head of ELT (English Language Teaching) with Alpha. "Technology is evolving and education, in terms of both students and teachers, must evolve with it. What we want to do is assist teachers to enable their students in this regard," said Mr. MacDermot.
"Today's students need to learn how to relate to the fast-shifting digital world around them, both educationally and socially. At the same, the role of the teacher must change from the traditional one to one where the teacher must also be a mentor and a guide, helping their students assess and interpret the information now available to them via the digital world.
"Modern technology is presenting our students and our children with both opportunities and challenges. What Alpha wants to do in this project is assist teachers in preparing to help their students meet those challenges and seize those opportunities," said Mr. MacDermot.
Alpha's head of US Schools content, Aaron Ashworth, said it was crucially important to equip teachers so they could prepare students for new realities. "The walls of the traditional classroom disappear wh en we integrate technology into education," said Mr. Ashworth.
"Students have different learning styles and language proficiency -- we will train educators to reach students at their level through differentiated instruction and teaching 21st Century Skills so they can achieve international standards in Math, Science and English Language Arts.
"It's important to teach our students to safely navigate the Internet but also to recognize and analyze the information they find so that, crucially, they can differentiate between the relevant and irrelevant. In this way, we're confident they can properly interpret the world around them and become effective, global, Egyptian citizens," said Mr. Ashworth.

L2 starting to look thin too...just needs a little push.

This is a pretty nice bet right here! As long as they stay listed, I think this can return to dollar land. These universities have a reputation for higher acceptance rates. Some Ph.D. programs only accept 5 people or less per year!!
Argosy has been known to accept way more than what's typical - meaning that this gives people with lower GPA, maybe they slacked off a little in undergrad - a chance to get their doctorate too!
Why does this idea sell itself? Because my generation (90's babies and before) are entitled, and would rather incur debt to buy respect, than work hard to earn it. The number of grad school students is astounding. Hell, I'm going for a second masters degree myself.
It never ever fails, because EGO drives this generation. So the price tag is irrelevant. We have a school that is accepting people who would otherwise not be accepted, and tagging on a high price. I think we're good to go! It'd be nice if this trade could pay off my FASFA debt.
Chart really looks to me like she wants to go...
Fingers crossed!
Thanks for the info! Couple more MM's bidding at .015 now. Maybe we'll get over .02 today.

Appeals court rules for Education Management on debt-cutting plan
By Tom Hals | WILMINGTON, DEL Tue Jan 17, 2017 | 12:05pm EST
Education Management Corp scored a victory in its fight against an investor opposed to its $1.5 billion debt-cutting plan on Tuesday, when a U.S. appeals court overturned a decision in a closely watched case involving creditors' rights.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Manhattan said a lower court erred in its ruling that a Depression-era law, the Trust Indenture Act, barred Education Management's plan to restructure its debt.
The appeals court also said the holdout creditor opposing the debt-cutting plan, Marblegate Asset Management LLC, could pursue its right to repayment by suing Education Management. However, the court said Marblegate could not invoke the Trust Indenture Act to retain an "absolute and unconditional" right to payment.
The dispute stems from Education Management's business of providing post-secondary education at Argosy University and the Art Institutes campuses, which ran into severe financial problems. The company needed to cut its debt without filing for bankruptcy, which would have caused it to lose access to federal student loan programs.
Creditors holding 98 percent of the liabilities agreed to swap their loans and bonds for new debt and equity in the company, according to the court ruling. Lenders would get about 55 percent of the $1.3 billion they were owed, and investors holding $217 million in notes would get a 33 percent recovery.
To carry out the deal over Marblegate's opposition, the company's lenders foreclosed on Education Management's assets. They then sold them to an Education Management subsidiary and divided ownership of the unit.
Marblegate still had the legal right collect, but those claims were brought against a corporate parent without assets.
Marblegate sued to force Education Management to pay in full, invoking the Trust Indenture Act.
U.S. District Judge Katherine Failla in Manhattan ruled in 2015 that the company violated that law by undermining Marblegate's practical ability to collect on its debt.
Education Management appealed, saying the law only guaranteed a legal right to a payment, not the ability to collect.

Judges Jose Cabranes and Raymond Lohier, in a 42-page opinion agreed, citing in large part the law's legislative history.
Judge Chester Straub filed a separate 16-page dissent.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce had warned in a friend-of-court filing that the lower court ruling expanded the law to ban out-of-court restructurings supported by a majority of bondholders.
We are both going to hell!
At least we get to see Patty again!
And further more I'm going to assume that means the stock will continue to trade and I would imagine they expect it to be a little higher by 2020 possibly...
Interesting...
If this hits, I'll buy her a day spa and then tell her where the money came from after.....lol.
Just noticed this little tidbit on the timeline from the website, this might of scared the pants off a few lol! But hell that means they have no debt right?
See we are betting on the devil, it's terrible, unless of course we make a bunch of money...
Wife works in the public school system....not at all happy with DeVos. Sure not going to tell her I bought this one lol.
kt
Yes I just watched her getting roasted up on the hill, man America is going to be so great under these new bozos!
Also Betsy Devos being a big charter school advocate doesn't hurt either.
Honestly every time I take a look at this I end up liking the play more...
Say they shred some of the bad assets, the company still has to be worth something I would think.
Unless of course there is just a pile of lawsuits coming after them, which just might be the case...
And not all of their schools are junk either...
http://www.edmc.edu/About/History.aspx
At least worth taking a gamble on around .02. If .023 breaks I'll really load.
kt
So they are clearly still open. Wonder if there is another huge lawsuit hovering over them or something? A company of this size can absorb that $95 million ruling from 2015. My guess is they have not paid it yet, still battling in court.
The delisting is probably what really killed this. Reality is people left it for dead, of course now that the Orange Regime is taking over I would think this is a buy all day if they aren't going BK...
Looks like they have a lot of job openings.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Education Management employs approximately 16,000 full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty and staff and Fall 2008 enrollment of 110,000 students.
EDMC's education institutions offer a broad range of academic programs concentrated in the creative and applied arts, behavioral sciences, education, health sciences and business fields, culminating in the award of associate's through doctoral degrees as well as non-degree programs. EDMC faculty are skilled instructors and trained professionals in their fields. Many faculty have extensive industry experience as well as the necessary academic qualifications.
EDMC has proudly provided career-focused education for more than 40 years. Our value system is founded in the belief that excellence in education is measured by practical outcomes that enhance the lives of our students, enabling them to make important contributions in their workplace and in their communities. For years, our faculty and staff have been committed to educating students who care about the world around them, and strive to contribute in meaningful ways. Wherever an EDMC school can be found — a big city or a small town, the common thread that joins our schools and our students is the value of education in one's own career and life.
