The E. W. Scripps Company (Scripps) is a diverse media company with interests in television stations, newspapers, local news and information Websites. The Company’s portfolio of locally focused media properties includes 10 television stations (six ABC affiliates, three NBC affiliates and one independent); daily and community newspapers in 13 markets and the Washington, D.C.-based Scripps Media Center, home of the Scripps Howard News Service, and United Media, the syndicator of news features and comics. All of its media businesses provide content and advertising services via the Internet. On June 3, 2010, the Company and its wholly owned subsidiary, United Feature Syndicate, Inc. (UFS) completed the sale of its character licensing business (UML) to Iconix Brand Group. In December 2011, the Company acquired nine television stations from McGraw-Hill Broadcasting.
