BT awards set-top box contract to Pace

May 13 2008

Saltaire, UK, 13 May 2008: Pace Group, the leading developer of digital TV technologies, has been awarded a new contract by BT for its next-generation V-box. This contract follows BT’s previous contract with the set-top box division of Royal Philips Electronics, which was recently acquired by Pace.

Pace will supply advanced second-generation hybrid personal video recorders (PVRs) for the BT Vision IPTV service. The HD-capable V-Box PVR will provide access for up to 40 Freeview TV channels and 30 radio channels, the ability to record an average of 80 hours of content, on-demand access to a huge library of films, TV shows, music videos and sport and a range of interactive applications.

The V-box uses Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV middleware and Nagravision CA. The latest version of the V-Box also features a new design, improved energy efficiency and a more powerful processor to power more advanced interactive applications.

Dan Marks, BT Vision CEO commented: “We are very pleased to announce this contract, working with the team that launched the first-generation V-Box. Our medium-term goal is to secure two to three million subscribers for our BT Vision service and we are looking forward to making this vision a reality in co-operation with Pace.”

Neil Gaydon, Chief Executive Officer of Pace, added: ““The hybrid model of providing the latest interactive services, alongside digital terrestrial programming, is a very compelling one. We are excited to be working with BT to bring this advanced product to market.”

Deliveries are expected to commence in 2009.

SteveNix, I'm not the option guy. S2, I'm sure would have the better answer. I would think that the $1½ that you query would be time decay and volatility. Take off the time value from the intrinsic price and the volatility value would be pricing in the bear rally that may have already seen it's peak as it approaches May op ex. There should be a lot of money in the calls bought during this leg up that 'the boys' will want to smoke in 7½ trade days from now. The move down for op ex and off the top of this run, adding in the Financial's capital raising parties on a daily basis and where I read that the decrease in earnings has the S&P500 up at 22/23 X earnings. The wheels coming off shortly might cut that volatility value the rest of the difference. As I said. I'm not the option guy, but....... S2 how far off base is my guess?

Ooops. I meant it rallied past my buy price to just over $23, and settled at around $22.50 (not $23.50).

Thanks S-2. Yeah, I had not heard anything from you on the $10K account for awhile, I just assumed when you said SIGM was a dead stock you would be selling it in that account also.

Novice question, and I don't expect you to have to go into a long explanation, but just some basic reasoning. When I bought the SIGM $22.50 July Calls, the stock price was $22.76 and the call price was $4.20. Now, after the stock price went below $16, and now recovering over my initial buy price of $22.76 to the $23.50 range, the call price is still "way back" at $2.70.

What will it take to get the call price back to $4.20?

I never sold it in the $10k account. But I did sell it personally. I took the hit due to the risk based on the news. Personally, I'm in the camp that the Semis are just getting a dead cat bounce on this theory that tech is the place to be in a reccession.

Well, not so fast. There could be a new leg down in the market anytime and I don't want to be risking money in that.

Steve: I hold all my SIGM too. We are in the same boat. S2 told me don't hold too long... in case the price goes up...sell all of them for break-even. The reason is that SIGM only have one product...not as MRVL...if BRCM takes SIGM's market share, it is very hard for SIGM to stand up in the short term...

According to the chart above, may reach $25 to $26 soon, however, never know "How good the news will be", may drop below $20 again!

S2: Do you mind if you do have the time, up date the SIGM chart in 5 waves format, so we could see the near future posibilities.

Anyone? Is this jump in price too good to be true for much longer, or are we back on track?

I bought at $23 after S-2's recommendation. I'm glad I didn't sell at $16 when he said to dump it. I was 95% DOWN on my July $22.50 calls just 2 days ago............I am fantastically relieved to only be 50% down at this point today.
