Biotechnology Meets Sustainable Agriculture

businesswoman

China Agro-Technology is primarily involved in the biotech rights for non-tube agricultural clone biotechnology as well as the marketing of such proprietary rights and technical know-how to the global market. The Company is also aggressively pursuing the rights to technology that has the ability to give softwoods the physical characteristics of hardwoods, which opens up the profitable hardwood industry to a much more inexpensive alternative.

Driven by agro-biotechnology, CAGTF has been involved in biotechnology that allows it to achieve output increases through a shorter growth period of various high growth rate trees. CAGTF’s genetically engineered eucalyptus strains, for example, are suitable for cultivation at different climatic conditions and are able to grow within just 4-5 years time to a height of 35 to 40 meters.

CAGTF is currently in an aggressive acquisition mode for the rights to a technology that could revolutionize the lucrative global hardwood industry. Hardwoods account for over $300 billion in global lumber demand and, with diminishing worldwide supply and strict regulations, face a market with very high and increasing demand with a rapidly shrinking supply. CAGTF seeks to meet that demand by offering a manufacturing solution that changes softwood to hardwood cost-effectively and with high profit margins.

One of the highest growth potential areas for CAGTF is the development of this wood treatment technology for eucalyptus lumber. Eucalyptus is one of the most popular woods used in the pulp industry and is grown in many regions of the world. The trees grow very quickly (they can even be chopped at the root and still grow back) and have a long fiber suitable for many practical applications. The problem with eucalyptus is that the wood cracks very easily during the traditional lumber drying process used in furniture manufacturing. Eucalyptus drying research is a hot bed of global research activity since so many nations view eucalyptus cultivation as a booming cash crop.

This wood treatment technology is the world’s first economically feasible solution for eucalyptus drying and CAGTF forecasts strong revenue potential from the global licensing of its technology

About Us

CAGTF, through the anticipated acquisition of a wood treatment technology company,  is seeking to develop, commercialize and license pioneering wood treatment technologies that convert sustainably-grown softwood into a wood product with the properties of hardwood.  The process, which can be used for softwoods as well as hardwoods that are not traditionally used for manufacturing, creates products, which are on par with or better performing than tropical hardwoods.

Business Structure:

CAGTF seeks to organize its wood treatment production into three main divisions.  The first division will handle the wood treatment production facilities in Shanghai and Zhangzhou, China, which are the world’s first commercial-scale manufacturing facilities for the technology.  The second division will be the R&D department.  This division will focus on continued refinements to the engineering process as well as operating protocols for the polymerization of softwood as well as the drying process of eucalyptus. The third division will be focused on the global licensing of the wood treatment technology.  Licensing will account for a significant portion  of CAGTF’s revenues going forwards.  Licensing fees will come from initial licensing, continued renewal and royalty fees, as well as the continuous provisioning of hardener/polymer supplies.

Wood Industry Facts

treesIf you are unfamiliar with the wood and lumber industry here are some interesting facts:

  • $800 billion in annual global consumption of wood, making up 3.5 billion m3 of lumber .
  • Hardwoods account for $300 billion of that revenue, with over 600 million m3 per year.
  • Though hardwoods are in very high demand, there is a rapidly shrinking global supply with more stringent harvesting regulations being applied every day around the world.
  • Many hardwoods cannot be used because of wood grain performance issues. Softwoods are often not suitable for outdoor or long-term use.
  • CAGTF’s anticipated wood treatment solution is a patented methodology for changing softwoods into hardwoods. The process is non-toxic, creates consistent product, is cost-effective and creates a high profit margin for manufacturers.

The Benefits of Our Proposed Wood Treatment Technology

There are several benefits associated with CAGTF's proposed wood treatment process:

lumber

  • The process allows for the processing of hardwood types that traditionally have not been used for processing, such as eucalyptus (which previously cracked under the drying process used by the industry).
  • Research findings for the wood treatment technology have been published in the industry research journal “Wood and Fiber Science”, Experimental Equilibrium Moisture Content of Wood Under Vacuum, Volume 40, Number 3, year 2008
  • Durability: Wood treated with the new technology is classified as having Class 1 durability and has been shown to outperform the best tropical hardwoods.
  • High insulation capabilities: reduced thermal conductivity. Ideal for window frames and siding applications in which energy conservation is important.
  • Workability: the treated wood is easily used in joinery and construction applications without any additional training or equipment as compared to traditional hardwoods.
  • Non-toxicity: waste products from processing can be safely recycled and re-used.
  • Insect Resistance: Treated wood is virtually rot-proof without being treated with toxic chemicals. The products are also highly resistant to fungi and are indigestible to insects and microorganisms, making them resistant to decay.
  • Color Retention: Processing allows for the complete retention of natural wood colors. UV resistance is increased substantially. The product quality is guaranteed for thirty years.
  • Dimensional Stability: The treated products are resistant to swelling and shrinkage. Treatment with the technology also has been shown to increase the surface strength of wood as well as improve the longevity and performance of paints and coatings applied to treated wood.
