This week, CNN released a photo taken by photographer Anil Prabhakar in
the forest in Indonesia.
The image shows an orangutan, currently under threat of extinction,
stretching out his hand to help a geologist who fell into a mud pool
during his search.
When the photographer uploaded the photo, he wrote this as a caption:
“In a time when the concept of humanity dies, animals lead us
to the principles of humanity.” 9/20/21

Human-like monsters were a part of native folklore long before being adopted by Anglo-Canadian settlers. The name "Sasquatch" itself likely derives from "sesqec", a Coast Salish1 word which translates roughly 
as "wild man of the woods". Stories of these enormous humanoid creatures figured most prominently in western Canada, where local lore reflected a fearful relationship with an untamed land. With more than 300 eye-witness reports in Canada and the United States, Sasquatch continues to fascinate.

In Western Canada, pioneers were more isolated, not only from each other but from their own cultural sources. In these conditions, the settlers adopted local monster lore to supplement their own distant native myths, as they tried to overcome their fear of the unfamiliar land. One of the best-known monsters they adopted was Sasquatch. Aboriginals, explorers, settlers, and tourists have recorded sightings of hairy mountain men for hundreds of years.
