Northgate Minerals Corporation is a leading gold and copper producer with mining operations, development projects and exploration properties in Canada and Australia. We are forecasting record production of 365,000 ounces of gold in 2009 from our Kemess South mine in northern British Columbia and the Fosterville and Stawell Gold mines in Victoria, Australia. Northgate is also planning to develop the Young-Davidson project located in northern Ontario, with total reserves of 2.8 million ounces of gold and is targeting future growth through further acquisition opportunities in stable mining jurisdictions around the world.
About Kemess South:
Kemess South is located in north-central British Columbia, 430 kilometres northwest of Prince George. The Kemess South complex consists of an open-pit mine, a 52,000 tonnes per day mill and various ancillary support facilities, including maintenance shops and housing for our 350 full-time employees. Since 2000, Northgate has owned and operated the Kemess South mine, producing over 2.5 million ounces of gold and 620 million pounds of copper.
Young-Davidson is an advance-stage development project located on the gold-rich Abitibi belt in Matachewan, northern Ontario, 60 km west of Kirkland Lake. Since acquiring the property in late 2005, Northgate has spent over $70 million on the development of the project. Recently, the company has released a positive Pre-Feasibility study, which is targeting a 15-year mine life with 2.8 million ounces of proven and probable reserves. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010.
