Derek Jeter: Owning a Team is ‘the Next Ultimate Goal’

It has been acknowledged that this season will be the farewell tour for New York Yankee great Derek Jeter so numerous people are making it a point to see Jeter play as much as they can before he calls it quits. Interestingly enough though, there hasn’t been much speculation about what Jeter will do after he is done playing. But it appears we now can get some idea of what he would like to do at the very least.

Jeter did an interview with Jack Curry of the Yes Network, and let it be known that owning a franchise is what it’s next on his radar after his playing days conclude.
Jeter said owning a team was “the next ultimate goal,” and that he wants to be the guy “that calls the shots.” He then offered this about the late George Steinbrenner.

“I learned a lot from [Steinbrenner] on how to run an organization,” said Jeter. “I would like [to be like Steinbrenner]. I thought he, in my opinion, I’m a little biased obviously, but I feel he was the best owner in all of sports.”
