I think that instead of his policies favoring "his rich and powerful backers", they are a natural result of his conservative viewpoint and that in turn brings in a certain set of backers - if you notice, most conservatives, indeed most Americans, seem to agree with many of the same policies you disagree with.

Does Bush favor his "rich and powerful" backers any more than clinton did?? Hardly - at least he does not use the Lincoln bedroom as a Motel 6 and take money for pardons, yet I have heard no outcry from you about clinton. Why?? - I suspect because many of clinton's policies agree with your personal ideology.

Try to look at things a bit more objectively rather than quickly casting personal aspersions on the man.
