It is not going to happen for a number of reasons. The context switch has significant overhead. No big deal when you are switching in and out of applications on a 100ms timeslice, but drivers are supposed to be realtime. Ok, ok, the callbacks in WinNT pretty much shot that idea in the head, but still. For another, a driver should be able to put or get data anywhere in the memory map. So a 32 bit driver in a 64 bit memory map would mean a bounce buffer of some type would likely be needed.
