paule - taking hwy 101 will be fun...
BUT
it will take you SEVERAL hours longer to do it - if pressed for time i'd (and i do) take i-5 down to williams then west to ukiah & 101 then south to cloverdale & on to lake shasta where you will be staying - i can usually count on a full day extra to stay on 101 north of ukiah & head for astoria (or seaside) then east to portland
the choice is yours - if you have plenty of time - take it and enjoy
