costs of physical ownership include:

spread (bid/ask) on buy and sell
shipping costs
secure storage costs
insurance costs for shipping and storage
possible assay costs at time of future sale

If you believe that one day you may require real hard physical gold/silver to trade between people in your community due to a economic crisis then stock up on the physical stuff.
