15:16 EDT - Investors have been piling into bearish long-term options bets in
the $911M United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) over the past week. The bears
struck again today, targeting $17-strike puts that expire in January 2015.
Those contracts have been in hot demand; with 40,000 bought today, strategists
at market-making firm Susquehanna count the total number of Jan 2015 $17 puts
at 165,000 over the past week. The overall number of outstanding UNG put
options, which turn a profit for buyers if UNG falls, last week rose above the
number of outstanding calls for the first time this year, according to Trade
Alert. UNG is up 2.5% to $17.52 today as natural gas futures rallied, but has
fallen 27% since its April 18 high
