You'll get a good feel for the time of day as well. In forex, the more major markets that are open, the more liquid it becomes and the spreads will improve.

Sidney opens around 7-8 eastern, then Japan and Korea and by 4 or so in the morning, things are really cranking when the European markets are opening. By the time our market closes, the rest of the world is sleeping and the trading is very slow on most days.

If memory serves me correctly? To be considered a carry trade, you need to be holding the position at 4:30 or 5:30 Eastern time. This can get some movement also.
