i think there's an adage "why do dogs _________? because they can." that pretty much explains why debt holders would crush a market cap ahead of news. they know when the PRs start hitting these cheap shares they own, and the ones they churned out to their buddies, will be worth a lot more.

it's essentially the same thing as compressing a coiled spring. eventually entropy takes over and the energy used to compress it is released.
