#142934 RE: Renaissance #142930

Ren, IMO it would be impossible to go after the LMAMS RFI without a munitions partner (see modular munitions/warhead requirements below). IMO LMAMS does have relevance to WSGI if, indeed as some think, the Argus can carry an LMAMS-like MAV as a payload and extend its range by 100 miles. IMO LMAMS has too many ITAR limitations to be wedded with the Argus for overseas sales. But WSGI could develop a "poor mans" LMAMS MAV that could be carried as payload by Argus giving second-tier militaries a Reaper-style strike capability. WSGI would need a munitions partner and a MAV partner IMO.

As I have come to understand it one of the problems we would face is satellite bandwidth for real time video over a LEO network. It can be solved with a novel adaptation but we can't talk about that here. In fact, with an active partnership on the RFI, I should limit my discussions on the LMAMS here as well. Sorry about that because this is a nice add-on capability for Argus.

No reason why you couldn't use your contacts with Glenn to propose an independent research project led by you for WSGI. Develop a NDA and a commercialization option--say percent of profits or gross revenues like Phipps has on new GTC ground stations. If you do it at a hobby-level, everyone wins--no drain on WSGI, no pressured timelines for you. WSGI can say they are working on a strike munition for Argus when they do overseas sales. There may be some SBIR's and specific angel funding out there as well.

If Glenn goes for it and you want my help, you can ask Glenn and he can pass you my contact info since, obviously, they know who I am as a SH. I would have to ask my boss so there is no conflict of interest but I do get to do a lot of fun stuff. Did a proposal for Congress two weeks ago unpaid. This could even be a good paradigm for using board/SH talent when you consider the depth of skills here IMO--like Bank's insights on video. I could think of a few special projects possible with board talent here once the paradigm is worked out. But this needs to be my last public Ihub communication on LMAMS on Ihub. Hope you understand. All JMHO.

BTW, probably has to be fixed wing not VTOL or LTA because of speed and range.

Here are the specific LMAMS requirements from the latest RFI:

LMAMS Capabilities:

1. Self contained, self launched system with modular warhead.

2. Set up, plan, launch, target identification and target execution by a single operator.

3. Keyed precise positioning system global positioning system

4. Net-ready

5. Compliance with Army EMI standards and work in a Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare (CREW) environment.

6. Have high probability of lethal effects at 4 meters with extremely low probability of lethal effects at 10 meters against unprotected enemy personnel in the open and in light-duty commercial vehicles both stationary and moving targets. (Indicate the maximum speed of moving target that your solution will engage)

7. Weight: complete operator control unit: interface, radio, batteries, cables, and antenna less than 5 lbs. / complete launcher, airframe, and warhead less than 5 lbs.

8. Must be ready for operation in less than two minutes from a pack carrying cold start.

9. Endurance: 15-30 minute flight time and 5-10 kilometer range.

10. Target acquisition (Day): Indicate how your solution would allow a ground operator to identify a human target (friend or foe), target features, slant range to determine positive identification, and methodology to test/verify claims.

11. Target acquisition (Night): Indicate how your solution would allow a ground operator to detect a human target (friend or foe), target features, slant range to determine detection, and methodology to test/verify claims.

12. Provide your solution’s velocity both cruise and terminal as it relates to item 6.

13. Digital Data Link (provide status of DD Form 1494 process)

14. ESAD – Capable of obtaining US Army Fuze Board initial safety certification

15. Electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) – Electro-static discharge (ESD)/hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance (HERO)-compliant

16. Provide visual and acoustical signature during launch, flight and at target proximity

17. System-representative training system/simulator capable of simulating flight characteristics, environmental conditions, realistic scene and scenario generation representative of sensor performance, certification of operators prior to initial operation, sustainment training.
